Maki Ligaya

Maki Ligaya | Pre-Vis Concept | Zarah Kaci Moises
Set during the Spanish Colonial Era, Maki Ligaya is merely a humble servant of an upper- class family that lives within the city of Calamba, the richest city of Calabarzon, Philippines. She witnesses the oppressive actions of the ruling elite and confronts supernatural monsters that threaten her ancestral land. Unbeknownst to her masters, Maki's seemingly innocuous fans serve a dual purpose as covert weapons, infused with cultivated runic magic that she inherently learned from her ancestors.
Fueled by a fervent desire for justice and a commitment to defending her heritage, Maki emerges as a hidden force against both human cruelty and otherworldly threats. Operating in secrecy, she systematically dismantles the nefarious actions of the corrupt while combating supernatural forces. Maki's story unfolds against the historical tapestry of Spanish colonization, portraying a narrative of resistance, retribution, and the delicate balance between tradition and rebellion. As she maneuvers through her dual life, Maki stands as a symbol of defiance, using her fans as both a subtle tool of justice and a powerful weapon to protect her people and homeland from the dual threats that loom in the shadows.

The weapon known as Kalis was previously owned by Maki Ligaya's distant relatives from beyond the distant lands of her home country, which she had the honor of wielding for battle against the supernatural enemies in every dire situation. Like her handheld fans, the weapon is also infused with runic magic and other such blessings to keep it strong. Although Maki personally favors her fans more, the Kalis sword always brings a swift and abrupt end to any disastrous conflicts by all means necessary.
